Michigan State University (MSU) students have a reputation for being hard working, down-to-earth students with a healthy attitude toward life and work. It's not uncommon for an MSU student to be the first in his/her family to be receiving a college education. They've worked hard to get here and know the value of the education they are receiving, say Eric Doerre and Vern Mason, Associate Directors of the Lear Corporation Career Services Center at Michigan State. As the pioneer land grant institution in the United States, MSU's students come from all across the country and MSU prides itself on following the land grant philosophy of educating the people of the country. "Our students have the reputation of having a refreshing worth ethic, excellent communication skills and a desire to learn," says Mason.
Doerre and Mason encourage their students to look for opportunities with real-world experience that will enhance what they are learning in class. And while these students are looking for a great learning opportunity, many are also looking for a flexible schedule, respectable pay (many company's internships are entirely unpaid), and a little fun! The Vector Marketing experience provides all of these aspects - meeting the needs of students and career services alike. Between 1990 and the present, more than 1,500 MSU students have sold CUTCO with Vector Marketing, selling a total of almost $5,000,000. In 2006 alone, MSU students have grossed almost $1,000,000 in CUTCO sales. The success of these students has led the school to receive 11 College Bowl scholarships over the past three years.
